k1w1nOz's R17 Friday Night NRL Preview

Posted {{post.formattedDate}} by k1w1nOz

Tonight we're treated to a rare Friday Night Double-Header, the last of this season. Both games feature home teams aiming for a finals berth hosting teams desperate to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

Injuries & Origin have affected the Panthers & Knights - giving the Titans & Bulldogs every chance of an upset - and setting up for a great night of fast footy!

Draftstars (DS) have posted $3k GPP's for both of tonight's games. Moneyball (MB) has a $2k GPP for the first game & a $3k tourney for the late game.

Panthers  Stadium - Fri 6:00pm

After a shaky start to the season, the Panthers have won 5 straight and sit just outside the 8 on F/A. The poor 'ol Titans have claimed some big scalps this season but their lack of consistency has left them sitting equal last on the ladder with the Bulldogs.

The sports books have the Panthers as firm $1.41 favourites over the $2.82 Titans, expecting a 6 point margin and highish 40 point match total.

From 10,000 simulations Stats Insider projects a similar result - but identified a small betting edge on the Titans line & match total Under.

James Maloney will backup from Origin for the Panthers, however Nathan Cleary is looking unlikely unless he passes a fitness test today. Frank Winterstein starts in the backrow for injured Liam Martin, while Dean Whare returns to the centres allowing Isaah Yeo to move to lock.

The Titans welcome back centre Dale Copley, forcing Jesse Arthars out of the side, with Jarrod Wallace moving to lock & Jack Stockwell getting a start in the front row. Mitch Rein remains the bench utility, impacting the playing time of Nathan Peats.

Check out where tries have been scored & conceded by these teams so far this season.

The Panthers have heavily favoured scoring down their left side this season - Viliame Kikau (6T), Brent Naden (4T) & Josh Monsour (1T) tonight - who get an excellent match-up against a Titans team who have leaked a ton of tries on both edges.

The Titans have also been most dominant on their left side - Bryce Cartwright (2T), Brian Kelly (6T) & Phillip Sami (3T) tonight - get to match-up against the weaker of the Panthers wings.

Below are Fantasy Insider Lineup Cruncher #1 lineups for DS & MB – using Premium subscriber projections with standard cruncher settings – which tends to produce solid cash game lineups, and highlight good core players for GPP’s.

The Cruncher has 100% exposure to James Fisher-Harris, Isaah Yeo & Mitch Kenny in the top 10 optimal projected DS lineups. James Tamou, Jarrod Wallace, Kikau & Maloney are all projected to score over 50 fpts each.

On MB Kikau & Brian To'o feature in 100% of projected optimal lineups. To'o, Brent Naden & Jarome Luai offer the best $/fpt value based on projections.

MacDonald Jones Stadium - Fri 7.55pm

The $1.40 Knights have survived their Origin period well, retaining 4th spot on the ladder - but will again be without Kayln Ponga when they host the misfiring $2.80 Bulldogs.

Stats Insider projections are very similar to the bookies 6 pt line and expected 40 pt match total.

Mitchell Pearce, Tim Glasby & David Klemmer have been confirmed to backup from Origin while Daniel Saifiti is among the reserves. Sione Mata'utia moves to the back row for injured Lachlan Fitzgibbon, giving Kurt Mann a start at centre.

The Bulldogs have named Brandon Wakeham for injured half Kieran Foran however Jeremy Marshall-King may yet come into the halves or at hooker. Be sure to check final tam lists.

The Knights have heavily favoured their left side attack - featuring Sione Mata'utia (3T), Kurt Mann (1T) & Hymel Hunt (7T) tonight. Both Bulldogs edges have been poor in defense this season, and given Kalyn Ponga is missing from the Knights left side, tonight could be the night for Jesse Ramien (1T) & Shaun Kenny-Dowall (4T) on the right with Pearce.

It's hard to get too excited by the Bulldogs try scoring stats. Will Hopoate (3T) & Remis Smith (7T) have scored more tries, while Marcelo Montoya (2T) & Nick Meaney (0T) get the slightly better match-up on paper.
